Trig sounds scary

and it will make many a person very wary

but once you learn the identities

trig will no longer make you want to shout obscenities

sine is the first one we learned

if you don't know it by now I am truly concerned

the sine of ninety degrees is one

believe me, we are nowhere near done

The square root of three over two

should sound familiar to you

this is the sine of sixty degrees

I hope you are getting good at these

As you go down through the standard angle measures

it is such a great big pleasure

90, 60, 45, 30, 0

these angles are truly my heroes

for 90 degrees

start with 4 if you please

for 60, my friend

start with 3 if you see the trend

for 45 it is 2, and 30 it's 1

for 0 it is 0, and that's the very last one.

with each of these numbers, if you recall

find the square root of them all

when that has been done

divide by two for every one

this is the last step in the process

you should be making some progress

but don't be mistaken my friends

this is nowhere near the end

this method only applies to sine

cosine and tangent are each one of a kind

for cosine you start with 0 instead of 4

going down by up until there are no more

90 is 0, 60 is 1

I hope this makes sense to everyone

for tangent things totally change

but it really isn't all that strange

now that we have passed the point of no return

this is one of the first identities you will learn

tangent equals sine over cosine

this is the easy one, so don't you whine

to find the value of this trig function

simply divide sine and cosine, finding the conjunction

you now know how to find

the exact trig values that are one of a kind

I am sorry to say this is not the end

we have only gotten to the point where the road bends

the graphs will transform

and you will have to weather the storm

lying out in the rain

learning new identities, enduring the pain

there are more identities than you realized

you will have to memorize them, so don't be surprised

they don't look like fun, but trust me, they are

trig identities can shine like stars

as the days pass you will find you enjoy

studying math, like a school boy

proceeding to do identities, undeterred

you have turned into a full time nerd

This poem is entertaining while conveighing the information. It was somewhat fun to write and I think that the rhymes make it easier to read. This poem also conveys my feelings about trig. I love solving trig identities but they can also be quite frustrating. Through the course of the poem I give important information and as it progresses my outlook about trig improves. I think that other students may agree with my feelings about trig in the beginning of the poem. These students need to accept the fact that they will have to memorize identities, but once they get past this, trig is fun. I think a poem was a good way to express my feelings about trig.
